This is my first job, after my studies. Through a friend I ended up at NLO. My wish at the time was to work for a medium-sized company in the communications department and to experience all aspects of the communication profession, from writing a press release to creating a content strategy.

Why would you recommend NLO as an employer?

NLO is a great employer; I get good guidance when I need it, but I also take on projects independently. What I like about my job is that basically anything is possible. My manager stimulates my own development; she encourages me to take courses and training, to take on new projects and to look over the shoulders of colleagues throughout the organisation. The company is open to new ideas, to my input. All colleagues are accessible, it is a flat organisation in which a lot is possible. That degree of freedom plus room for own initiative is a big plus for me.

Business and personal growth at NLO

Learning to set goals, daring to take more responsibility, asking for help when I'm not sure: my growth is a recurring theme at NLO. I am encouraged to develop myself and I am given the space to do so. Dealings with each other are also pleasant and informal. There is an open atmosphere, colleagues are approachable.

Nice mix of various communication activities

"From organising photo shoots to maintaining the website, developing tenders for clients to organising business events; I experience a lot of variety in my work. That suits me well, a day at NLO is never the same. I feel like a spider in the web of the organisation and I have a lot of contact with colleagues from all over the organisation. That gives me a lot of energy.

As a communications employee, you don't need to have a background in patents, intellectual property or rights. Myrthe did not know much about intellectual property before she started. Now she does; a new world has opened up for her. If someone invents something, she sometimes gets to hear about it, for example during customer interviews. That is also nice to see, that new ideas actually come onto the market.

The real reason Myrthe works at NLO...

"Our company drinks! I understand that many companies list this as a plus, but at NLO it is really very sociable. Successes are celebrated and the quarterly drinks, for example, are handled very nicely by my colleagues in Facilities. Many colleagues attend, everyone talks to everyone while enjoying a nice drink and many tasty snacks."
